Depending on what experience you are after in furthering your equestrian knowledge, we have two program options. Our Youth Horsemanship Program and riding lessons with Platinum Equestrian.
CHEEKYE RANCH YOUTH HORSEMANSHIP PROGRAM
In partnership with Second Chance Cheekye Ranch (SCCR), Cheekye Ranch’s Youth Horsemanship Program (CRYHP) aims to promote an early love for horsemanship. We strive for a true appreciation of horses through qualified and experienced instruction and mentorship. Gaining knowledge is the most important key ingredient to becoming confident with horses. Learn why horses do the things they do and how they think. Understand their body language, their emotions, and what their facial expressions may be telling you. Learn effective training exercises to add your toolbox, all while building your confidence!
Experience not necessary! Each lesson can be tailored to suit each individual’s knowledge level and learning style. Learn in a positive and welcoming atmosphere, with ample support and encouragement. Programs are offered to children as young as 3 years old with short parent attended rides. At 5 years old they can begin to learn the skills necessary to ride and care for horses independently as they move through the program.
ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR, KAYA MALOU
Kaya has always had a deep connection with horses. Ever since she was a little girl, she was lucky to be surrounded by horses. She grew up learning how to care for these beautiful beings and quickly understood how much time and effort it takes to look after a horse. Not only did she become an experienced rider, she also developed horsemanship skills by training her own horses. While working with different horse trainers in Switzerland she cultivated a sensitive understanding of a horse’s behaviour and their language.
After completing her rider and leader certificate in 2010 in Switzerland, Kaya competed in jumping shows for a couple years but soon realized the show world was not what she wanted to focus on. Therefore Kaya chose to specialize in horsemanship rather than competition.
Kaya is eager to share her knowledge and love for horses with engaged young children who want to dive deeper into the equestrian/horsemanship world. Kaya will teach and support her students into creating a strong relationship with the horses and exploring all aspects of what it means to care for horses. This entails cleaning stables, brushing horses, learning their anatomy, caring for tack, learning to lunge, analyzing a horse’s behaviour, lead lining, riding and many more horse-centered activities.
